Hall Brown Family Law has again been hailed as one of the country’s elite specialists with the publication of three new legal industry rankings.

The boutique firm has once more been included in the top tier of family law specialists by Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and eprivateclient.

All six of Hall Brown’s offices and 20 of its lawyers have been singled out for praise.

However, Managing Partner and co-founder James Brown expressed his particular pride at seeing one of the firm’s junior members, Savannah Davies, make her first appearance in Chambers and Partners only two years after qualifying as a solicitor.

“We have always viewed the rankings as a helpful indicator of how we are all regarded by our clients and peers in the legal profession.

“In that respect, it is a source of immense satisfaction to see all our offices and so many members of our team make progress.

“The fact that Savannah is featured is testimony not only to her ability but the willingness of her colleagues in our London team and across the rest of the firm to help nurture the young talent which we are fortunate enough to have in our ranks.

“Identifying and then developing that talent has always been a key component of the Hall Brown approach.

“Having the opportunity to work with and learn from individuals counted as some of the foremost family lawyers in the country has seen Savannah and others make great strides, allowing them to put in place the foundations of what will hopefully be very long, successful careers.”

All three directories are compiled using teams of independent researchers and testimonials from clients and practitioners in an effort to produce the most objective snapshot possible of those practising family law and a wide variety of other legal disciplines.

Chambers and Partners summarised Hall Brown as offering a “first-class service” with a “particular affinity for high net worth and ultra high net worth cases”, with all its work being prepared “impeccably”.

Although vastly experienced in handling even the most complex matters, Chambers added that Hall Brown was also “passionate about non-court dispute resolution”.

Savannah Davies’ breakthrough into the national legal rankings comes five years after joining Hall Brown as a paralegal in 2021 – three years before she qualified as a solicitor.

She is hailed by Chambers and Partners as being “very calm, diligent” and possessing “a razor eye for detail”.

Three of her colleagues in Hall Brown’s London office – Izzy Walsh, Priya Palanivel and Catherine Bell – merit high regard.

Priya is considered “fantastic on all levels”, while Izzy is highlighted as a “meticulous…invaluable…go-getter” and Catherine brings “a real wisdom to her cases”.

James Brown is described as “truly brilliant” and his fellow Hall Brown co-founder, Senior Partner Sam Hall, is a “force of nature”, capable of maintaining “his composure and focus even in the most difficult of cases”.

Some of their colleagues in the firm’s Manchester head office attract similarly sparkling praise.

“When it comes to matrimonial finance”, one Chambers and Partners’ commentator writes, Partner Andrew Newbury “is the complete package”. Senior Associate Madeleine Hailey is an “absolute superstar” who “goes the extra mile for her clients”.

Hall Brown’s office in Birmingham makes its first appearance in the Chambers and Partners directory three years after it opened due in no small part to Andrew Breakwell’s “brilliant legal mind” and Janine Hobday’s “strong sense of justice allied to a healthy pragmatism”.

The firm’s Sheffield team, led by the “excellent” Partner Alison Fernandes and “amazing” Emma Hubbard, retain their place in the top tier of the Chambers’ ranking alongside their colleagues in the Leeds office.

There are also strong showings for two of Hall Brown’s newest recruits.

Partner Natalie Dickson, who heads up the office opened by the firm in Liverpool in January this year, is “always trying to do the best for clients” and colleague Antonia Williamson is “superbly intelligent”, operating “at a level beyond her years”.

Authors of the Legal 500 classification have concluded that Hall Brown is “unquestionably one of the leading family law firms in the nation”, noting that “the strength and depth of this team deservedly makes them a national force”.

In addition to the glowing testimonials for so many of their colleagues in the Chambers and Partners ranking, Legal 500 has special praise for Hall Brown’s Leeds team, which is described as “a great collection of family lawyers, hiring top talent and having a great collaborative approach”.

Laura Guillon is “a standout performer” and her fellow Partner Sarah Manning is “forward-thinking and passionate about mediation being used to assist clients in agreeing on good outcomes”. Senior Associate Bronwyn Warmington is “an incredible lawyer” acknowledged as having “a thorough approach to each case”.

The rankings’ success comes just a week after Hall Brown claimed its second successive title at the Yorkshire Legal Awards.

It claimed the Niche Law Firm of the Year title at the Yorkshire Legal Awards just 12 months after taking the Family Team of the Year prize.

In April, celebrations of the tenth anniversary of its launch also coincided with Hall Brown being named one of the UK’s 10 Best medium-sized Places to Work for the third year in a row and one of the country’s four best workplaces for women.

The firm’s stellar reputation has fuelled a consistent growth in demand for its services and made it a destination employer for family lawyers from across the country. It now has 85 employees, including 65 lawyers.
