Katie Welton-Dillon

Partner/Head of Children Family Law Team

Katie has specialised in family law from the outset of her career. As a trainee solicitor in 2009, Katie worked alongside the managing partner and head of family law at a top Manchester-city based firm. Upon qualifying in 2011, Katie worked at a niche and specialist family law firm, developing her skills in all areas of family law but particularly cases involving children (and those with an international element). Katie joined Hall Brown in 2017 to head a specialist children law team which has now developed across all Hall Brown’s four offices.

Katie is known for her knowledge, passion and experience of dealing with cases involving children including the arrangements for a child following the breakdown of relationships, child relocation (both internally within the jurisdiction of England and Wales and internationally), child abduction (the removal of a child from their resident country without the other parent’s consent) and dealing with complex cases involving domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental health issues. Katie is also experienced in representing grandparents and family members whose nieces, nephews and grandchildren for example, have been taken into care by the Local Authority.

Katie represented the Father in the notable case of Re L [2012] EWHC 3069 – a case whereby the child was successfully returned from the USA following abduction by his Mother and thereafter the successful defence of the Mother’s application to return to the USA.

Katie is known for her clear and structured approach, her meticulous preparation and her exceptional level of client care. Katie is also a well-respected advocate, representing clients in court.
Katie is a member of Resolution, an organisation of family lawyers committed to achieve a constructive solution to family law disputes.
