Hall Brown Family Law has reinforced its position as Manchester’s leading family law practice by claiming a top prize at the city’s annual legal awards.

The boutique firm has been named Family Team of the Year at the Manchester Legal Awards.

It completes a unique cross-Pennine double, coming only months after Hall Brown took the same title at the Yorkshire Legal Awards.

The honours round off another glittering 12 months of recognition for Hall Brown as the only Manchester-headquartered firm to retain a place in the top tier of all the UK’s premier rankings.

In May, Hall Brown was also named one of the country’s Best Places to Work for the third year in a row.

Managing Partner James Brown said that the praise was an indication of the “unparalleled” contribution made by both lawyers and support staff to the firm’s success.

He added that the latest trophy was especially sweet, coming only weeks after Hall Brown celebrated the tenth anniversary of its launch.

“We really are having a birthday to remember.

“To come out on top at both the Manchester Legal Awards and the Yorkshire Legal Awards demonstrates how we have been capable of maintaining standards throughout the firm.

“We were up against some very talented firms and individuals, so such prizes are certainly not taken lightly and we are incredibly grateful for them.

“To receive such recognition at this particular point in our journey shows not just how consistent we have been in doing our best to support our clients but how that is evident to friends and colleagues outside the firm.

“Everyone within Hall Brown has been hugely important in helping us get here and we count ourselves as fortunate to have been able to assemble such a formidable team.”

The Manchester Legal Awards are organised by the city’s Law Society and, as its retiring Chief Executive, Fran Eccles-Bech, outlined, aim to “shine a light on our region’s legal professionals, honouring those who continuously go above and beyond”.

This year’s edition of the awards was the 17th and saw 88 firms contesting the 22 prizes on offer, with Hall Brown ultimately topping a four-strong shortlist in the family law category.

James described how winning the Manchester Legal Award was “a real honour”, given that Hall Brown opened in the city in April 2016.

In January this year and in another strong sign of its dominance, Hall Brown launched in Liverpool – the firm’s sixth office – with further premises in Manchester, Sheffield, London, Leeds and Birmingham.

The Manchester Legal Awards triumph book-ends a remarkable run of recognition for Hall Brown.

Last October, the achievements of its teams in Leeds and Sheffield saw the firm declared the “clear winner” in the Family Team of the Year category by judges of the Yorkshire Legal Awards.

That preceded the retention of top tier billing in each of the leading rankings of the UK’s legal profession, including Doyle’s, Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, eprivateclient and The Times.

Two months ago, Hall Brown once again featured among the 10 very best medium-sized companies in the annual listing compiled by the Sunday Times

It was also named by the same publication in a first listing of the country’s best workplaces for women.

Hall Brown now employs more than 80 staff nationwide, with over 601 of those being fee earners.
