Lily Smith
Lily joined Hall Brown in June 2025, having graduated from the University of York with a first-class honours degree in Law.
Whilst studying for her LLB, she was awarded the Joan Samuel Prize by the York Law School for her public law essay discussing open justice, freedom of expression and rights to privacy. Lily edited and wrote for the student law journal, ‘Ebor Lex’, where she specialised in public law, and legal issues affecting women, with her own journal contribution critiquing the relationship between justice, equality and the position of women.
Having previously undertaken work experience at firms including Hall Brown, and family law mini-pupillages with chambers in Manchester and London, Lily’s journey into law was inspired by her work for a social justice charity in Macclesfield.
In her spare time, Lily enjoys playing the piano and her cello, musical theatre, yoga and walking with friends and family.
